Japanes school girls among first to be visited in Virtual Reality

Summer Lesson is a Virtual Reality Game by NAMCO Bandai for Sony’s Virtual Reality headset Project Morpheus. It’s first appearance took place in Japan at a pre-TGS event from SCEJA. You can look at and interact with a Japanese school girl. I tend to see the first movement towards VR porn, but for the Japanese audience it’s really just another dating simulation – in Virtual Reality. As for the western market, competitor Samsung chose Temple Run VR to present the new Oculus powered Gear VR in Germany. Both will sell very well.

Tekken game director Katsuhiro Harada is developing a Japanese school girl simulation

Well that did not take very long. Japanese developer NAMCO Bandai war eager to show off what they have been up to with Sony’s Virtual Reality headset Project Morpheus. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia held a pre-TGS (Tokyo Game Show) event on September 1 2014. Among a lot of PlayStation-bound games they invited Tekken game director Katsuhiro Harada to show off Project Morpheus capabilities on stage. The Morpheus tech demo he brought was called ‘Summer Lesson’ and puts you in front of a Japanese school girl. It’s really all about looking at her and interacting by shaking or nodding your head.

According to Tekken game designer Katsuhiro Harada, this is what a dating sim on Project Morpheus could look like in Virtual Reality.

Only in Japan: ‘Summer Lesson’ would be an odd tech demo, if presented to the western world

‘Summer Lesson’ by Tekken game director Katsuhiro Harada is a tech demo for Project Moprheus. Wherein my immediate reaction was “Oh cool, VR Porn”, these kind of games are a lot more common in Japan, and would not make the porn category at all – especially so because nothing really happens, like in the Leisure Suit Larry-series. Dating simulations like these are very successful in Japan and something completely normal to show off at a press conference in Japan. So since the Tokyo Game Show pre-event was primarily about showing upcoming games to investors and Japanese press, there isn’t anything pornographic about it. You spend your time in a room with a Japanese schoolgirl. The interesting part is, how you are going to interact with one another. One method allows you to nod or shake your head to answer her questions. You can look around the room to get the immersive feeling, everybody is shooting for with Virtual Reality.
